Hair Terminology/Acronyms.

Hi ladies,

I realised I use aot of acronyms in my posts so Ive thrown together a list of commonly used acronyms.

Hair Length Terms

EL:  Ear length

NL: Neck length

SL: Shoulder length

APL: Arm Pit length

BSL: Bra Strap length

BSB: Below Shoulder Blade

MBL: Mid Back Length

Other Terms

BC (Big Chop): This is when you cut off the relaxed/permed ends of the hair leaving just your natural hair..

TWA( Teenie Weenie Fro):  This refers to the hair that is left after a BC depending on what stage you Big Chopped.

Co-Wash:  Washing  hair using only a moisturizing conditioner.  This is done because shampoo tends to strip hair of its natural oils.

Pre-poo:  Prepping hair with conditioner, oils or treatments before washing your hair, as a way to reduce the ‘stripped’ feeling when using shampoo.

Sealing:  After moisturizing hair, typically oils such such as coconut, olive oil, etc are used to seal  the moisture into the hair.

Braid-out: Braid hair in sections, let the hair to dry, separate the braids apart when fully dry,and style.
Twist-out: Twist hair in sections, let the hair to dry, separate the twists when fully dry,and style.
Curl Pattern: the natural curl or wave of your hair without chemicals
DC (Deep Conditioning). This is typically done for 20 minutes to overnight, depending on jow much time you leave the conditioning product in.
EO: Essential oils such as peppermint, tea tree oil, rosemary, or lavender
EVCO: Extra virgin coconut oil
EVOO: Extra virgin olive oil can be used as a moisturizer and conditioner

Regimen: Your hair routine
Slip: This is the slipperiness of hair before you detangle, making the process easier. So using conditioners with a lot of slip can help with detangling.
